Oj, ty rzeko

‘Oj, ty rzeko’ was born from the artist’s intrigue of the Slavic Pagan roots of her country. The artist examines her own heritage, tradition and culture through an exploration of the intersection of Pagan faith and Catholicism in contemporary Polish society.

Honorata employs traditional Polish handicraft and methods in hand with her photography practice, exploring embroidery particularly. The artist combines traditional design with lavish Catholic imagery as well as Slavic Pagan symbolism. Thr craft of embroidery has always been a ‘feminine’, beautiful object; the artist mixes traditionality and her own amateur technqiue to reestablish the craft in a feminist context.
