UNRAVELLED / REWOVEN
UNRAVELLED / REWOVEN delves into nostalgia and the balance between memory’s familiarity and fallibility through a multi-media approach; blending moving image, textiles, and photography. Red thread is woven through photographs printed on cross-stitch fabric, establishing a tactile link between the artist’s grandmother’s stories, Polish heritage, and tradition/folklore.
Focusing on the women in the artist’s family—great-grandmother, great-aunt, cousin, grandmother, and aunt— the work traces the subtle rhythms of their losses, loves, and complex relationships.
These fragments offer glimpses into everyday life under Poland's communist regime, while the artist reexamines her own nostalgia for a homeland left behind through her grandmother’s memories and a deeper exploration of her roots.
